Service summary

Home-Start believes that children need a happy, secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them achieve their full potential. Home-Start Kennet provide home visiting volunteers as the core part of the service.

Home-Start knows how hard being a parent can be, particularly during the early years, and that any additional pressure can make things seem overwhelming.

Volunteers, who have experience of parenting, visit families in their own homes once a week for a couple of hours to offer informal, friendly and confidential support. Families, who have at least one child under 5, are often referred to Home-Start by their health visitor, Children's Centre or GP, but they may contact the scheme directly.

Client groups

Families may be experiencing stress due to loneliness or isolation, separation due to military deployment, bereavement, lone parenting, twins or multiple children under 5, ill health, disability or special needs, relationship breakdown, financial difficulties.
