Service summary

We meet weekly and learn coping and communication tactics and the theory of lip-reading to help us cope with our hearing loss. We learn a lot and laugh a lot in a relaxed informal setting and regain the confidence we have lost with having this most isolating disability. Anyone over the age of 16 years welcome - no upper age limit.

Lipreading classes empower those with hearing loss to lead an independent and fulfilled life.

At each lesson, students will learn the coping and communication strategies.

A typical session will have individual, pair and group activities that are relevant to everyday life; scenarios the deafened adult might expect to encounter.

Most people join a class to enhance and maintain interaction with friends, family, customers, colleagues and clients. They are often feeling frustrated and angry about the circumstances. Some have lost their confidence or their self-esteem is low.
