This page is about your transport options in Wiltshire

Getting out and about

Generally people are expected to arrange their own travel to social care services. People can make their own travel arrangements or access the range of public and community transport available across the County. The Council will in some instances directly support people to access services and will always work with individuals to help them make the best of the transport available to them locally.

Transport will only be directly funded where the need is deemed eligible in line with the National Eligibility Criteria, in all other situations the Council will support you through information and advice about the forms of transport available.

Will I get transport to care and support services

People who are eligible for care and support services do not automatically get support to travel to these services. For some people transport to work, education or other activities will be funded as part of meeting an eligible need, see the eligibility page

for more information on what is considered an eligible need.

In situations where accessing the community, work or education is identified as an eligible need the council will work with individuals to identify the best way to meet that need. This will include ensuring customers make full use of any relevant benefits, access appropriate community or public transport services before services are funded.

If you are eligible for support towards transport costs your personal budget will include an amount for transport costs. The Council will only fund customers travel to the nearest appropriate service, if customers choose to attend a service that will need additional transport costs they will be expected to top up the difference between the cost of travelling to the nearest appropriate service and their chosen service.

Car Sharing Schemes

Car-sharing is when there is more than one occupant in a private car. We all share cars regularly, with our friends and family, without thinking about it. But there are often times when a driver has empty seats in the car simply because they don't know of anyone who needs a lift.

Liftshare enables organised car-sharing by connecting people travelling in the same direction so they can arrange to travel together and share the costs, whilst reducing congestion and pollution at the same time.
