Day opportunities for people with learning disabilities

Day opportunities supports people with high and complex needs, autism, people with a dual diagnosis and those who may have a general learning disability. We work with 140 customers every day offering support to individuals living at home with families, or in a supported living setting. Our person-centred approach guarantees we put you – the individual – at the heart of everything we do.

Day opportunities also offers a light touch service for people with a learning disability who are independent in the community, but wish to join in our activities to meet up with friends and make new ones.

What do we provide?

Support for customers in developing their independence, for example, food preparation skills.

Support for customers to develop and maintain friendships in their community.

Enable customers to have the opportunity to try new experiences.

Organise meaningful community focused activities such as Zumba, cinema, ten pin bowling, allotment gardening, swimming etc.

Support for customers who require a safe environment for part of the day. Along with safety, our day centre provides customers with therapeutic activities such as sensory relaxation, postural management and cooking for independence.

Who can access these services?

People with learning disabilities and their family carers can access these services via the Adult Social Care advice and information helpline Telephone number 0300 456 0111.

Referrals to learning disability provider services can only happen through Adult Social care and as a result of the community care assessment.

Meeting care needs

Are you eligible for help?

People with learning disabilities and their family carers will need to meet the council's eligibility criteria to access most of the services on offer to them.

How do we help?

Our services aim to maintain and enhance people’s skills and independence while offering respite to family carers.

Opening times are 9.30-4.00, but this can vary according to what people ask for.
