A physical activity club for people with dementia and their family carers. These clubs are led by experienced facilitators who are trained in dementia awareness and supported by trained volunteers. The group usually starts with a gentle warm-up, moves on to a dance or exercise based activity with a breather in the middle, then coffee and a snack at the end for a sociable half hour.
Creating art can be therapeutic in all stages of life. It has been shown to be particularly helpful for people with dementia who can enjoy the process of painting, drawing and being creative, and feel a sense of achievement with their finished work. Art groups support people to retain skills, but are also suitable for those with no artistic experience.
