|Getting out and about in the local area and being part of their community can be really difficult for many adults, children and their carers, because they are unable to use the standard accessible toilets provided. Wiltshire Council is committed to making sure there are toilet facilities that everyone can use and is proud to support the national Changing Places campaign.|
|What makes Changing Places different?|
|Changing Places facilities are toilets open to the public, that are accessible with enough space to move around in, and with the right equipment.
They have a centrally placed toilet with drop down rails, height adjustable changing bench, ceiling track hoist and a shower.
|Who are they designed to be used by?|
|In Wiltshire, Changing Places toilets are for use by people with severe physical and learning disabilities, those undergoing rehabilitation and anyone else who due to a disability or illness would benefit from using them.|
|Changing Places Standard equipment|
|Each facility has a user friendly guide with instructions on how to use all of the equipment.|
|If using the hoist you should bring your own sling and anything else you may need such as pads etc.|
|Planning a day out|
|Lots of people need Changing Places facilities to help them enjoy day to day activities in their local communities.
Without Changing Places many people would not be able to leave their homes, to visit towns or take part within the community.
|There are Changing Places around the country.
Wiltshire is leading the way to ensure that more of our community places have these facilities.
|To help you plan a day out, the Changing Places has a website www.changingplaces.org which has a useful location finder showing where accessible facilities around the country.|
|Each Changing Places toilet has:|
|Emergency Alarm – if you need help|
|Each facility is fitted with an emergency pull chord alarm. This will summon help during normal working hours only|
|When the building is open reception can provide emergency assistance.|
|Out of opening hours the alarm is not monitored and no assistance is available.|
|Access arrangements – how to open|
|You can open a Changing Places toilet by using a RADAR key 24 hours a day (unless otherwise stated).
The Radar Key is a national scheme that enables disabled people entry to accessible toilets (wide enough for wheel chair users)
The key can be bought from Disability Rights UK and some Tourist Information points.
