About the Doctors Surgeries
Wiltshire CCG has made sure general medical services are available over the Christmas and New Year period.
GP Practices know about their contractual responsibilities during core hours (core hours are Monday to Friday 08.00 – 18.30, excluding bank holidays) and how they apply over the holiday.
Each practice publishes their own arrangements for cover, based on demand forecast from last year.
All Practices have contingency plans, to manage demand over the winter including the holiday period. Most practices plan to have same day booking, as most patients do not book in advance over the holiday period.
During 08.00 and 18.30 (core hours) please contact your practice in the normal way for urgent and routine care. Outside core hours, calls to the practice will automatically route or signpost you to the Out of Hours service.
Patients with urgent care needs can access the Out of Hours Service between 18.30 and 08.00 weekdays and all weekend/bank holiday, via NHS 111
Outside the practice core hours, patients with urgent care needs are able to access the Out of Hours Service between 18.30 and 08.00 weekdays and all weekend/bank holiday, via NHS 111
About the Chemists
Rotas are in place for community pharmacy services throughout the year, including this holiday period. This ensures that there is good geographical distribution across the county, of pharmacies that are open later in the evening. In addition to the rota, there are 11 pharmacies each opening for 100 hours of service per week.
GP practices work closely with their local pharmacies and arrange early collection for repeat prescriptions where this is the right thing to do. Most practices also have arrangements with pharmacies about repeat prescriptions, enabling patients to collect repeat medication direct from the pharmacy.
